Sarasota Scoliosis Management
Non-Surgical Treatments for Scoliosis
Scoliosis causes an unnatural growth of the spine, where the spine curves and takes the form of a letter S or C shape. At Platinum Healthcare, we understand that surgery to correct the curvature is not recommended for most scoliosis patients, so our professionals offer effective, non-invasive treatments for managing the painful symptoms associated with scoliosis. At the forefront of our treatments is bracing. Our cutting-edge brace, in contrast to more traditional back braces, is soft, flexible and does not use force to realign the spine.
Patients with scoliosis experience painful symptoms as a result of abnormal curvatures, such as:
- Vertebrae misalignment
- Muscle inflexibility
- Pinched/pressed spinal nerves

How Bracing Works
There is no “cure” for scoliosis at this time, so managing the condition to prevent it from getting worse is critical to the treatment process. Children are usually at the greatest risk of suffering severe scoliosis complications because their spines are still growing. Without proper spinal care to keep their spine aligned, it can grow out of shape, causing severe discomfort and complications.
Bracing works by holding the spine in an upright position. While bracing cannot undo curvature of the spine that’s already occurred, it can prevent further curvature and help the spine grow stronger. Each brace is custom made to fit each patient, and they are close-fitting and discrete so as to not be noticeable when worn under clothes. Scoliosis braces typically run from under the shoulders down to the lower back. Most patients stop wearing their braces when the spine stops growing. For girls, this is usually when puberty hits. For boys, it’s typically around the time where they need to start shaving regularly.
